Here is a good alternative to Microsoft Office, called FreeOffice …

Just because you have a Windows based computer does not mean you have to buy and install Microsoft Office. I can see purchasing Microsoft Office if you need it for work, a business or are a student (high school or college). Other than that don’t spend the money. There are FREE alternatives out there that are very compatible with Microsoft Office that will give you the ability to prepare documents, spreadsheets and presentations. As a real-life example, when I was working (managed a network), I purchased and installed Microsoft Office. I was a Microsoft Office user. Now that I am retired, I have explored the other options out there and the office suite that I now use to meet my home-based computing needs is an office suite called “FreeOffice”. It is very compatible with Word, Excel, and Powerpoint; AND, if you are into Google Docs, it works very well with that, as well. Also, as a side note, if you own a Chromebook (that is Linux compatible), you can install FreeOffice on your Chromebook (see “How to install Softmaker FreeOffice on your Chromebook“).

For the money (cost $0.00); you can’t beat it… If you download from the developer’s website, you will find the download speed will be slower than usual; but, it will download.

FreeOffice is a complete Office suite with a word processor, a spreadsheet application and a presentation program – all compatible with their counterparts in Microsoft Office.
